The Weeknd born Abel Tesfaye was a high school drop out who for some time lived out of a van, he tried to come up through traditional channels but it was YouTube that gave him his first big break.
Abel Tesfaye was born on February 16, 1990 in Scarborough Ontario Canada. His parents emigrated from Ethiopia to Canada in the 1980s. Soon after his father abandoned the family and his mother was working around the clock so Abel was raised mainly by his grandmother. With her speaking Amharic to him throughout his youth this became the only language Abel understood up until the age of 5. He took an interest in music early on with a diversified interest of all sorts.
